28 FEBRUARY:- NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY

National Science Day is celebrated on 28 February to mark the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman done on 28 February 1928. For this he was awarded with Nobel Price in 1930 becoming the first Asian to receive it. The first National Science Day was celebrated on 28 February 1986.

RAMAN EFFECT
In 1921 Sir C.V.Raman was on a ship one day coming back from London when a question struck him. Why is the sea really blue?. He wasn't convinced with the notion that it's blue because of the sky's colour. So in March 1928, he published a theory which states that 'The change in the wavelength of light that occurs when a light beam is deflected by molecules' known as the 'Raman Effect'.
